Four-legged Guests
We understand how much better a vacation can be if you can bring your dog
with you. At Three Buck Inn, dogs are not just allowed, they are our Very
Important Guests. Our goal is to help make this you and your dog’s best
vacation. So with this goal in mind, we have created the very best choice in
lodging and supply you with all the tools you need to make it a great time for
you and your pup. “There are few greater pleasures than seeing your dog having

A hiking trail begins right out your door and travels for two miles along
the Truckee River. This trail is away from roads, so it is the perfect hike for
dogs to run off- leash and swim in the river. In the winter, help yourself to the
snowshoes provided in the room and go exploring in the snow with your dog.
A directory of summertime dog-friendly restaurants is located in your room.
As dog owners, we know how hard it can be to find a place to stay with your dog.
We open our home to you and your dog in hopes that you follow the doggie rules
so that we may continue to offer the only pet-friendly lodging from Tahoe City
to Squaw Valley. We also rely on the acceptance of our neighbors towards our
“open-to-all-dogs” policy. Please respect our neighbors by picking up after your
dog, keeping your dog on leash while on River Run property, and not allowing incessant barking.
Thank you.
Due to the set-up and location of Three Buck Inn Riverfront, we can not allow
dogs to be left unattended in the room. In our few years of experience, we have
found that even the best dogs bark when you leave them alone in an unfamiliar
hotel room. If a dog in one room is barking, it is likely to disturb another
room and so we must ask that dogs are not left alone. We are sure you can
understand and appreciate your cooperation.

dog" is located in your room.
Many hikes in Tahoe are leash-free, but it is always a good idea
to bring a leash with you. These are just a few of our favorites:
 | The River Trail - A 3 mile (roundtrip) dirt path that
follows the river towards Tahoe City. (a little over 1 hour) |
 | Five Lakes - 4 miles (roundtrip), this trail is
located in Alpine Meadows and starts off steep and then gets
easier. There are a couple of wonderful Alpine Lakes at the top
where you and Fido can swim. (about two hours) |
 | Shirley Canyon - A beautiful trail in Squaw Valley
that follows waterfalls all the way up to High Camp. Stop off at
Shirley Lake for a dip or just to rest and enjoy the view. Hike
back down or take the Cable Car back to the bottom. For an
easier trek, take the Cable Cat up and follow the trail down. |
 | Eagle Rock - A short hike, straight up to a wonderful
cliff, over looking Lake Tahoe. |

Winter Hike with Tobi & Brodie
|
Biking with your dog can be tough on them. Do not ride too fast and always
bring water for your dog.
 | Squaw Valley - Take the Cable Car up and follow one of the
many trails down the ski hill. Dogs must be leashed on the tram. |
 | Page Meadows - A wonderful, wide open space with about 14
miles of trails to explore. |
 | Blackwood Canyon - About 15 miles of paved road, but can be
dangerous with cars on busy days. Beautiful setting. |
Raft the Truckee River with your dog. Call Truckee River Raft Rentals at
(530) 581-0123 for details.
Many Lake Tahoe beaches welcome dogs.
 | Dog Beach - Located in Tahoe City, this beach is off the road
and includes picnic tables and bar-b-ques. A rocky beach that is perfect
for swimming or just hanging out. Dogs can be off-leash here. |
 | Tahoe State Recreation Area - Great for swimming and hanging
out on the large dock. |
 | Lake Forest Beach - Great for swimming. |
 | Coon St. Beach - Located in King's Beach, this is a popular dog
beach. |
Here are a few of our favorites:
 | Page Meadows - A beautiful trail through forest land that takes
you to open meadows. (Intermediate) Dogs can run leash-free in the snow. |
 | Blackwood Canyon - The road here is gated off in the winter to
make for perfect cross-country skiing with your dog. The first 2.5 miles
are easy and then it gets steep. |
This is a wonderful winter sport to do with your dog (and it will work you
out as well).
 | The River Trail - A great trail in the winter for snow-shoeing.
Very picturesque. |
 | Juniper Mountain - Located in Alpine Meadows this trail is
relatively easy and ends up overlooking Squaw Valley. |
 | Page Meadows - Just as it is perfect for hiking, biking and
cross-country skiing, it is also great for snow-shoeing. |
 | Blackwood Canyon - Again, another good spot for easy
snow-shoeing. |
If your dog will not scare the fish off by frolicking in the water,
fishing can be fun with your pouch.
 | Truckee River - Lots of places for fly fishing or rod-and-reel
fishing. |
 | Prosser Creek Reservoir - Nice size lake with brown and rainbow
trout. |
 | Donner Lake and Lake Tahoe - Many docks to sit back and fish
from. |
