As some of you are aware a number of flaws in the security of Internet related services have been purposely buried in the name of national security and are slowly being exposed. We welcomed another such release recently. It even has a cool name: The ShadowBrokers Arsenal.
The ShadowBrokers, an entity previously confirmed by The Intercept to have leaked authentic malware used by the NSA to attack computers around the world, today released another cache of what appears to be extremely potent (and previously unknown) software capable of breaking into systems running Windows.
Microsoft has commented on these issues and as always, if you maintain your patches you minimize your risk. Updates to the security cores of the Open Source community continue and I am continuing to upgrade and rebuild our server core libraries.
I also ran across firmware updates to my routers, in particular two such firmware updates were made available for the ASUS product line.
If you are unsure if your current network setup is up to date please give me a call to schedule a comprehensive review. If anything is more than clear in today’s Internet, it is that you need to stay on top of security related issues.
